SJMA is thrilled to continue placing volunteer trail ambassadors at the Ice Lake trailhead. As we know, Ice Lakes has incredibly high visitation in the summer months and has seen substantial impact to the landscape due to the crowds. Volunteers can spend time at the Ice Lake trailhead—talking with people as they arrive—and/or head onto the trail to chat with hikers and backpackers. Ice Lakes volunteers will kindly & effectively communicate Leave No Trace, safety, and responsible recreation information to visitors.
As a volunteer, you can have a powerful impact on the way our National Forest visitors experience and enjoy this treasured place.
Our priority is to staff the trailhead on weekends, but you can sign up for shifts any time Wednesday - Sunday (+holidays) throughout the summer.
Required training: Ice Lake Trail Ambassador Training (May 20th, 5pm - 7pm, Public Lands Center, 15 Burnett Ct, Durango, CO, 81301). Register for this training in the shift list below. Training is required for any volunteers who haven't already attended a Ice Lake volunteer training. If you'd like to help but aren't available on May 20th, email volunteer@sjma.org to schedule a 1 on 1 training!

One Last Thing: We all love and have dogs here at SJMA! But we're asking that you please leave your four legged friends at home for the time you volunteer with SJMA. We're sorry for any inconvenience that this causes.
