San Juan Mountains Association

Trail Riding Ambassador

San Juan National Forest

SJMA is thrilled to be restarting the Ghost Riders program - now known as Trail Riding Ambassadors!

Join us as a trail ambassador on horseback across popular trails in the San Juan National Forest in the Dolores, Columbine, and Pagosa Ranger Districts.

As a trail riding ambassador, you'll share educational information about trail etiquette between user groups, Leave No Trace principles on public lands, responsible recreation guidelines, Wilderness regulations, and safety information.
Trail Riding Ambassador volunteers will spend time both at the trailhead of the trail, talking with recreationists, and riding the trail to talk to other hikers/bikers/riders.

Where: Trail Riding Ambassador volunteers will ride trails including Boggy Draw, Chicken Creek, Pine River, and more.
When: Saturdays & Sundays in May through August 2024 - ideally 8am - 1pm.
How to sign up: SJMA will be hosting a required training in May - date TBD. At the training, you'll learn everything you need to know and what to share during your trail riding ambassador shift. You'll also receive an SJMA volunteer vest to wear during your shift.
After you've attended the training, you can pick days & trails that you'd like to head out on a shift. Volunteer trail riding shift sign up will be informal for now - please text, call, or email me at msaunders@sjma.org or 970-325-5133 at least the day before you head out on a volunteer trail riding ambassador shift with the names of everyone who will be participating.

Register for one of the trails below to demonstrate interest in this volunteer program at the location(s) listed below.

There are no shifts available at this time.
