Snow Science & Social programs

Join SJMA staff in leading Snow Science and Social education programs open to the public at the assorted spots around the San Juans! Programs will include walking 1-2 miles in cold temperatures on snow in snowshoes at an average elevation of around 10,800'. You will support SJMA staff with teaching about snow crystals, snowpack layers, the watershed, and winter ecology. Volunteers are welcome to shadow & help with group management, or jump in to share their knowledge during the interpretive hike. You may carpool up in the SJMA van or drive yourself. There is a training day on Jan 9th from 10am-4pm.  

No special snow science knowledge is required, just comfort in over snow travel and interest in education!
