Join us to prepare for our biggest fundraiser of the year and help us remove ladder fuels from the forest. We will be harvesting about 400 white fir trees in just a few hours and need ~80 volunteers. There's a job for everyoneβyoung and old, strong and not-so-strong.
Harvest Day is critical to the success of our most important annual fundraiser, Christmas Trees for Conservation. This project aids in fire prevention through forest thinning of small white firs that act as ladder fuels in the forest. Collection of local trees provides people with the opportunity to bring part of their local forest home for the holidays. Funding from Trees for Conservation goes directly to supporting SJMA education and stewardship programs.
Our harvesting location is up Beaver Meadows RdβForest Road 135βadjacent to the gravel pit. There is ample parking within walking distance of the site but carpooling is highly recommended.
Van-pool available from the SJMA office. Please sign up.
Dress for the weather; wear sturdy footwear, eye protection, and gloves (and extra gloves); and bring food and beverages.
Not sure of what to sign up for? Have more questions? Contact MK: volunteer@sjma.org or 970-403-5422.
We love four-legged friends but this is not a great event for dogs due to the number of people, moving vehicles, and off-trail hiking.
